The main components in a car
Engine Block The engine block is almost the same as the foundation in a building and one of the keys to a car engine. Generally, this engine block is made of aluminum. However, there are also those who use iron material which is still used by several car manufacturers. This engine block is often associated with the cylinder block because of its shape which is indeed a tube. It was from here that the mention of four-cylinder engines, V6 or V8 engines appeared. The cylinder block of this engine also functions as a place for the piston to move. Therefore, the more cylinders in an engine, the more power the engine can generate.
Combustion Room In the combustion chamber, it becomes a meeting place between fuel, air, pressure and electrical energy which then creates a small explosion that moves the piston. This combustion chamber component also houses several other components such as pistons, cylinders and cylinder heads.
Cylinder Head Usually the cylinder head is located on the top side of the engine cylinder. This cylinder head component also has a very important role in the combustion process in a car engine.
Piston This piston component has the shape of a can that moves up and down and creates a movement that has a big role in running the car. On the upper side of the piston, there are 3 or 4 cast grooves. In this groove there is a piston ring made of iron and consists of two types of rings, a compression ring and an oil ring.
Crankshaft When there is an upward and downward movement of the piston, the crankshaft is then tasked with converting the movement so that it can move the car. In this crankshaft component there is also a balancing lobe which is useful for protecting the engine from damage when the crankshaft rotates. You could say this crankshaft is also the brain of the engine.
Camshaft The camshaft works in conjunction with the crankshaft to ensure engine valves open and close in place in time for best performance. This component also has important control on the intake and outtake valves. On some V-shaped engines, there are sometimes 2 camshafts on each cylinder. That is why the engine performance is also far more optimal than ordinary machines.
Timing System The timing system is a way of working that cannot be separated from the performance of a car engine. This component is where the crankshaft and camshaft coordinate. If the two components are out of sync, the machine will not work properly.
There are still many components that support the performance of a car engine apart from those previously mentioned, such as engine valves, rocker arms, pushrods and fuel injectors. Each component has its own function and role. And by working together, car engines can work well and can lighten human work.
